Abstract

A collection of penal cases of late Qing dynasty. It was printed in 1906, composed of 16 juan. The book title printed in the central margin of each page appears as Lixue xinbian (例學新編). As indicated in the preface, the collection originated from a manuscript compiled by Yang Shixiang (楊士驤), then governor of Shandong and former judicial commissioner of Zhili. Like in most other collections of penal cases, all rulings were sorted in the order of statutes and/or sub-statutes in the Qing Code according to the applicable law in each case. The coverage of cases ranges from Jiaqing to Guangxu reigns, with majority of the latter period. The descriptions of cases are generally brief, containing only basic facts and applicable law.
